Because they really, really aren't. I want to go home and sleep a bit more, and then do something I enjoy. Surprisingly enough, I wouldn't be sitting at a desk, feeling useless and bored. Duh.
The weekend was good, though.
On Saturday I went to the gym with Irene, then we did a bit of grocery shopping; lazy afternoon at home, followed by cooking a very nice dinner indeed -- beef in red wine, aubergine-cheese gratin, green salad. Yummy. Then the first four episodes of Jane Eyre with Timothy Dalton.
I agree with
dickgloucester that one of the strong points of this adaptation lies in devoting more screen time to Jane's childhood. And of course I'm always happy to ogle Timothy Dalton. I don't like the Jane of this adaptation, though -- she's a bit of a doormat, I can't perceive any kind of erotic tension between the two protagonists and, while not fat, she's definitely too sturdy to make a credible, waif-like Jane. So feelings are a bit mixed, but I'll reserve the final judgment until I've watched the whole series.
Yesterday both Irene and I were invited to have lunch at Gerald's place -- roast pork with cabbage, oh the yummyness. I spent a truly marvellous afternoon playing with Maya, who is now one year old, and the dog Amadeus. Was dirty as hell when I got home (so was Irene, because we all had been rolling around on the floor a lot) and flopped down on the couch for more Jane Eyre. Unfortunately I fell asleep around eight, woke up a bit after midnight, and then couldn't sleep till three. Not really feeling on top of the world today, but, to quote Mr Bennett, "This, too, shall pass."
Oh well.
Jasna is back among the living. Apparently it was the -- ubiquitous, alas -- intestinal virus that struck her down; it's a rather unusual reaction, but then bodies behave in individual and often surprising ways when defending themselves against viruses. I do hope I didn't catch it -- the incubation period can allegedly last up to two weeks, so the other shoe has another ten days to drop.
Have a good start into the week, fellow Monday-sufferers!
