Season 3 of Downton Abbey has arrived,as well as Xmas at DA, and I really, honestly intended to distribute it evenly over four or five days, savouring two episodes per day.
Ha.
As if.
I gobbled it down in two days, and it was two only because of the necessity of breaking for sleep.
I've always been like that, and I strongly doubt it's going to change. Whether book or movie or tv-series, once I've started and been drawn into it, I have to finish it as fast and as soon as possible. Depending on how much I like it, I'll then watch/read it a second time, more slowly and with more consideration for detail. There's certainly going to be a re-watch of season 3, because I liked it a lot.
Still hate Bates, BTW. sanctimonious, self-righteous prick. Gah.

During the trip I also read Ian Rankin's "The Complaints" (new protagonist, well-written, clever plot), Julian Barnes' "The Sense of an Ending" (god, I wish I could write like that. It's so fucking clever it makes my head explode, but it's not the wanky kind of cleverness. Like Bach's music, you can enjoy it on a merely superficial level without knowing/ understanding the underlying structure, but you'll be even more floored once you fully appreciate the beauty of the structure as well), and Philip Pullman's "The Ruby in the Smoke" (OMG I love Pullman. So glad I discovered this book while browsing the bookstore, and I already ordered the other three Sally Lockhart novels).
It's a slightly eclectic reading list, I know. But then I've never given a damn about genres, only about good writing.

This means that I haven't been very productive since my return from Vienna (Tuesday early afternoon). And "not very productive" is a euphemism for "abjectly lazy". Oh well, it's my time off, and I'm free to do whatever I want with it. Plus, after coming back from Vienna I'm always a bit over-communicated and in need of peace and quiet.

Meeting with architect-friend was successful insofar as it's pretty clear now what has to be done. What's also pretty clear is that my tenant will have to move out by the end of February, and I hope he won't throw a spanner in the works. To be quite honest, I'm fretting a lot about that. He'll get the information on Monday, i.e. he's got three months to find another place. The problem, however, is that I'll be neck-deep in shit if he doesn't. Of course there's a contract, and his obligations are crystal clear, but if he simply doesn't fulfill them, the necessary legal steps I'd have to take, while doubtlessly successful, would take far too much time. If he doesn't move out on time, all I can do is simply forget the expansion project for the time being and move back into the flat as it is now, with a few renovations that won't take much time. It's not a catastrophe, and pretty much a first world problem, but I'd be quite pissed-off.

On a lighter and more optimistic note, I just realized that the sshg exchange will start posting on Monday! Just what I need to sweeten the bitter pill of having to return to work on Monday.

Massage at 12, and afterwards I'll go and see Elena and baby Kalina. After that, gym. If I'm being lazy and unproductive, at least I'm in good shape. Which is good, even though it means that a few more items of clothing will have to go, since I've shrunk out of them. My favourite leather skirt among them, I'm sad to say, but while you can alter many things, I wouldn't try it with a leather skirt. So somebody else will have to adopt it.
