Feeling better, but also a bit silly
Feb. 8th, 2013 11:23 amFirst of all, thank you for the kind wishes re. improvement of health. They seem to have had some sort of positive effect on my snot-drenched brain, because I suddenly realized yesterday that what was plaguing me wasn't a cold. Flawless deduction, really, starting from the observation that there aren't many viruses causing intermittent nose-dribbling and sneezing. The coming and going seemed to point towards an allergic reaction rather than at me having caught cold or a virus -- suddenly it dawned on me that on Wedndesday I'd scritched the street cats but hadn't washed my hands afterwards.
I suppose I'd have realized much sooner that my cat allergy was the culprit, had I not been sidetracked by the fact that the sneezing etc had started during the working breakfast at the UK residence. Then, however, I remembered that I'd fed and petted the street cats, got into the car and gone straight to the residence, where I hadn't washed my hands, so it was pretty obvious why the reaction set in while I was staying in a cat-free environment.
I did, indeed, wash my hands after feeding the Embassy trio, but the little tom was having an extra-affectionate day and butting his head against my face repeatedly.
Mystery solved.
Ha!
I think I'll take next Thursday and Friday off work and have another long weekend.
Somehow, planning a long weekend on a Friday morning, i.e. not so far from the weekend, makes me feel exceptionally good. Plus, I'm pondering my options for tomorrow's dinner and leaning towards something vaguely Turkish -- falafel, spicy meatballs, ezme salad (finely chopped tomatoes, onion, parsley), yoghurt sauce with mint and cucumbers, and maybe some rice with toasted pine nuts.
If, OTOH, I manage to find some nice pork fillet, I'll do something completely different and stew the meat for three hours in the oven, in my beloved clay pot, with onions and wine. To be served, I think, with mashed potatoes-and-turnips and a crispy green salad.
*drools*
