Things that got done
Mar. 15th, 2013 01:55 pmHad meeting with landlord (Embassy), to go through the details of the upcoming repairs.
We'll start on April15; one week should be sufficient, and it's the week the Ambassador isn't here. Among other things, the heating will be changed to individual, on electricity -- I'm sure that we'll actually be saving money like this, because, unlike city heating, individual heating can be regulated according to our needs.
Applied for and got days off from April 22 to 30.
Booked ticket for Vienna, April 25-28. It's going to be a short visit, but for me it's enough, and besides I'll be going back a few months later anyway.
Made appointment for Monday morning with the vet -- Lola gets another rabies shot, just to be on the safe side, and three weeks later we'll do the blood test.
Gave Slavica her birthday present today. Her birthday is on Sunday, and I got her a small pendant in Istanbul: the traditional Turkish eye, in enamel, on a background of gold in the form of a stylized eye.
Finally decided that I'm going to the Viennese Ball this year -- it takes place next weekend, and I'm going with a few of the girls, plus Slavica. The dress I bought two years ago looks even better now, because I've lost a bit of weight in the meantime, but maybe I'll go looking for something non-black. If I don't find anything, or if it's too expensive, I can always go back to the black one. Given the company I'll be in, I'm rather looking forward to the ball. It's going to be more of a girls' night out with lots of drinking and making fun of people, but that's exactly what I'm looking forward to.
I also sent off an order to the supermarket this morning; Irene has caught a virus, so there shall be chicken soup tonight, with rice and carrots. There's nothing like chicken soup when you've been struck down by an evil virus.
Irene being sick is something of a novelty -- usually she complains a lot but never gets sick. I, on the other hand, almost never complain but normally catch one virus per season. Apparently, this year we've switched, as far as the virus is concerned, because I'm certainly not going to take up complaining.
Another thing that got done, but not by me, and which doesn't make me happy: Harry the Street Cat (the black-and-white runt of my "herd", with the lovely emerald eyes -- hence the name) was killed yesterday by a car. *sighs* Well, at least it was a quick death. Better than an injury and eventual death. Poor kitty, though. She had just started not to flinch away when I put her food in her special spot.
Speaking of the herd, today when I went down to dispense their food -- they're always waiting for me at the entrance, and then make me do a very stange kind of cat-slalom, winding around my legs as I walk towards the feeding spot -- we were interrupted by three hungry dogs. Not aggressive dogs, but while there can be canine-feline "friendship" among domestic pets, life on the street is rougher than that. The kitties ran away, the dogs ate the food, and since they need to eat as well, I didn't chase them away but took down more food when I left for work. The small black kitten was up a nearby tree as fast as lightning, poor thing, but at least it escaped unharmed.
And that's it, folks.
Have a wonderful weekend!
