I'm being a bit lurk-y right now, because I've actually got work to do. I do read the f-list, though, even though I'm not commenting as often as I'd like.
Still, nice things have to be recorded.
- Season 3 of "In Treatment" is every bit as effing brilliant as the first two. The script writers are absolute geniuses, and so are the actors.
- Since the Aqua Park was a bit disappointing -- no swimming, bad organization, full to bursting -- I tasked Blerim, our driver, yesterday with calling at the New Star hotel, where they have this gigantic but regrettably dirty pool, and asking when they change the water. Turns out it's Monday, and so I'm not surprised anymore at the state of the water on Sundays. Monday is always an awkward day for being out of office, but my diary already sports two doctors' appointments for next Tuesday (fake of course), and so I'll be leaving work around 11.30 and heading to the POOOOOOOL! To SWIIIIIIIIIM!
- Although I've discovered this possibility for having a proper swim, Vesna, Slavica and I will be going to Struga (Lake Ohrid) on August, 15, all the same. It's an Austrian holiday but not a Macedonian one and therefore begs to be used for such an outing. Besides, swimming in a vast lakes beats the pool any day, although it doesn't come close to swimming in the sea. But you can't have it all.
- There was one great feature at the Aqua Park, which is why I'll be going back, maybe on August, 16: an artificial river, a canal really (in Macedonian they call it "mrzliva reka", i.e. lazy river -- have fun trying to pronounce it, but be careful not to damage anything) running around the whole area. You get enormous floating tyres, either single or double ones, and then you sit or lie on them and float round and round the park. While the water in the (only) big pool gets dirty soon, because the pool isn't very deep and the sun incredibly hot, plus lots of people, the river is relatively clean.
- Due to diligent application of sun screen I got through Sunday without sunburn. It'll be some time until the stupid tennis tan lines go away (or at least become weaker), but it's nice not to have a fish belly anymore.
- Among the street cats living around my building, there are two particularly small, particularly shy females. One is black-and-white, with the most amazing green eyes, whom I call Harry, and the other one is coal-black. By now, I'm allowed to touch and/or briefly stroke them both, although only while I feed them (which is good, because they're better off not trusting humans too much).
- Not quite so nice, but necessary: tomorrow the vet comes to give the Critters their shots. Also, I get Lola's rabies certificate, which means I can contact my vet in Vienna and ask him to issue her an EU pet passport. And this *is* nice, because it takes a huge weight off my soul.
- Flat in Vienna is close to being finished; they've already done colour samples for the walls -- a very light cream for all rooms except the kitchen, which will get a slightly more intense, light apricot (goes better with the terracotta tiles). The sum I'll have to shell out still feels slightly dazzling, and even more so the fact that I've actually got it, and then some. It wouldn't do to strip myself of all my savings, because you never know what might happen.
- I think I've finally found the right balance between enjoying my last weeks here and looking forward to Vienna. This is really the nicest of all these nice things.
