...I have to say that I'm currently experiencing the very opposite of an ego boost.
Not to dwell too long on the stupidity of an employer who flushes 25 years of experience and qualifications down the loo, but how completely idiotic and cretinous do *have* to be to do exactly that? I mean, I'm not expecting anybody to dust off the red carpet and roll it out for me, but completely disregarding anything I may have to offer is the absolutely most dunderheaded thing they could do. And "disregarding" not only in the sense of "giving me work I'm over- or not qualified for" but as in "giving me no work at all". None, zero, zilch. In the two-and-a-bit days I've been here, I've had one phone call, because somebody had dialled the wrong extension.
Unfortunately I'll have to sit through some more of it, because 1) it's never a good idea to run to HR after less than a week on the job, and 2) I have to be careful not to piss off my boss -- me complaining reflects badly on him, and even though I'm not overly concerned about other people's opinions, making an enemy is certainly not a priority. I am, however, not going to sit through it at my desk, because I have no intention of going mad. There will have to be the occasional sick day, and so long as I don't register overtime (which would require a huge leap of faith on the employer's side, plus would backfire once I complain about being bored out of my skull) I'm sure I'll get away with not being here from 8.30 to 4.30.
Remember the day I panicked and gave serious consideration to applying for Bucharest? Not that I regret not applying, but I have to say that, while I expected work to be dull, I certainly didn't expect work not to exist. Which goes to show that even the lowest expectations are sometimes too high...
Lunch break going to start at 11.00 I think, and going to last till at least 1.30. I can do all sorts of useful things at home, and if I decide not to go home, whatever I do will be more useful than what I'm (not) doing here.
