Kitty woes )

Definitely not one of the good days.
I called in sick (feeling sufficiently justified, because i certainly felt sick) and stayed home all day, watching the kitties, writing a bit, reading a bit, and napping. Funny how irregular sleeping alters the perception of time.

Anyway, I finished Martha Grimes's 'The Grave Maurice'--disappointing, all in all. And, I think, this is entirely the publishers' fault. While reading the book, you can almost feel the author wanting to write in a different style, which sometimes shines through, but being confined to what the publisher thinks the readers like. And the plot... well, it's complicated, as all her plots, but this one feels definitely artificial. Don't know what kind of contract Grimes has signed, but I hope for her sake that she doesn't have to write more Richard Jury novels.

Did I mention that Lucius got a tiny piece of litter stuck in his wound? Well, I tried to remove it last night together with Janine--hopeless. So, another visit at the vet's this morning. I'm sure it hurt, but I'm equally sure it didn't hurt that much. It took two people (the assistant and myself) to hold ze boy down, while the doctor picked the piece out of his ex-balls with a pair of tweezers. In order to avoid being snubbed for the next few months, I offered catnip drops immediately after we had arrived at home. His Royal Grumpiness accepted them graciously and doesn't seem too pissed off at me.
I'm still totally elated by the vet's compliment: he said I'm an exceptional pet owner, because nobody ever notices bits of litter stuck in the wound, so that people usually bring their cats when the wound has already begun to fester. Ha! I'm seriously considering painting "Exceptional Cat Owner" on a tee-shirt and wearing it proudly ;)
