Miscellanea
Jun. 9th, 2010 08:56 amAugust holiday successfully moved forward by a week, so it's now 31 July till 10 August, and boss is free to go on the much-coveted boat trip during the 2nd week of August from Moscow to St. Petersburg, if he still fancies doing so. Hotel booked, plane ticket booked. I'll go to Austria on 31 July and will return on 8 August; the additional 2 days are for apologizing to ze boyz and getting my dirty laundry done. Depending on how miffed ze boyz will be, there might be room for additional activities ;-)
Boss gave me Friday off, so I'll be having a long weekend. Me likes long weekends, almost better than a longer holiday. For one, it's possible to have them more often, and -- that's the biggest plus -- instead of 500+ mails in the inbox there's only a manageable backlog. Tennis at 9, in girly outfit this time, so as to make patchy sports tan marginally less patchy. Then I'll probably change into less girly outfit and go running along the river, because Valentina will be on the court for one more hour, i.e. I can leave my things with her. Tailor -- who last Friday didn't have anything for me, because he's moving his workshop, and why on earth did he forget to tell me??? -- at 12, then I'm going to lug the stuff home and spend the afternoon in a leisurely fashion. In the evening there's some cocktail-cum-movie event organized by the Slovak Embassy. All things considered it looks like it might be a good, if hellishly hot, day.
Both our education coordinator and development aid attaché are going to leave Skopje at the end of June, which is a big loss for the Embassy, because both are lovely and competent people. Norma, the education coordinator, will be replaced, but the development aid office will close its doors on 30 June. So boss is giving a farewell reception on 21 June, and we've more or less finished organizing it -- invitations go out by the end of the week, catering has been ordered and received instructions. Now I just have to organize the music, and then it's done.
That week, i.e. the week starting with the 21st, has now officially been termed "hell week" by boss and myself. The secretary of state from the ministry of finance, who had to postpone his visit from April to June, is coming on the 23rd/24th, and on the 24th the minister of interior is coming as well. No, they don't coordinate visits between ministries, which is a pity but can't be helped. And on the 25th it seems that our former minister of foreign affairs is coming to Skopje to participate in a conference, and also an Austrian member of the European Parliament. Hell week seems like a very appropriate term. And then, on the 27th, I'm going to Vienna for 3 days. Not looking forward to the trip, but usually things one isn't looking forward to turn out to be not so bad after all.
