Yesterday was actually a busy day. o_O It's strange how easy it is to fall into the laziness routine, and how much I feel personally offended when something comes up to interfere with the laziness. Coped well, though. Slight embarrassment by a particular pair of shoes that give off squelching noises, if my feet get even slightly sweaty. Noises probably audible only to me, and I succeeded in finding a way to avoid them before I had to be Busy And Important and go to a meeting with a high-ranking government official.
Boss announced his return from leave for Wednesday at the latest. Good, because we'll have enough time to go over everything before I leave.
On Tuesday I had dinner with Anita, our trade delegate, and Alexandra, who is here as the representative of a big Austrian insurance company. The latter, who'm I'd only met briefly during a cocktail, is an avid reader and an animal lover. We hit it off immediately. *happy sigh* I like making new friends. The first thing she said while we were waiting for Anita was, "Have you by any chance read Stieg Larsson's Millennium trilogy?", so lots of squeeee ensued. She's almost finished it by now, and it was great to encounter somebody who, like myself, just can't stop reading and has to set the alarm in order not to miss appointments or forget completely about a dinner.
Common sense has triumphed: up till now, I've been going to the gym and playing tennis after work without bothering to remove my makeup first. It's ok for the gym, but when you're playing tennis and it's 38°, the mix of sweat and makeup flooding the eyes is absolutely toxic. And no, I'm constitutionally unable to wear anything around my head. It makes me claustrophobic and itchy and all kinds of crazy. (I never wear any headgear, not even in winter) So today I packed cleansing milk and moisturizer, which will stay at my office so I can remove the makeup before sports.
Those who don't like or are afraid of thunderstorms will probably shake their heads, but I vastly enjoyed the spectacle last night. The day had been so hot and stuffy, and I'd already had given up any hope for the temperature going down. But then, around 9 p.m., all hell broke loose. Lightning and thunder almost simultaneous, rain pouring down like a white wall and occasionally mixed with hail (no big pieces, though, so not really dangerous), furious wind. I even went out on the balcony to enjoy and called Janine so she could listen. (Why not have a shared thunderstorm experience, after all?) It lasted about an hour, and afterwards the air was lovely cool and moist, and there was still a bit of wind. Promptly fell asleep on the couch and woke up shortly before 2 a.m. with my whole body aching, because the position had been a little awkward. Made it to bed, though, and slept the remaining time like a baby. Lucius, the vile traitor, did of course choose to spend the night on the balcony, and Cornelius repeatedly tried to usurp the pillow. Life with ze boyz is a burden indeed ;-)
