Pre-holiday, fly-by post
Aug. 3rd, 2011 07:11 amLeaving tomorrow for Austria, where the weather isn't as summery as one would like it to be for a summer holiday. Mixed feelings, as always, because I just hate to leave my critters, but I am of course looking forward to the holiday as such. Plus, the plane departs at 6 a.m. o_O
Have finished two thirds of Order of the Phoenix and will take it, and the last two books, to Austria with me. I think what annoys me most is JKR's totally unnecessary reminding readers of things that have happened in previous books -- as if anybody would read the books out of order, and of they did, the stupid recaps wouldnt help AT ALL. Other things that annoy me are: the totally overdone Dursleys, the sometimes appallingly bad writing (Trees gilded with gold, honestly!) and a few blatant mistakes, such as Harry not seeing the Thestrals at the end of book 4. But it's fun to re-read, anyway.
I haven't yet looked into my mailbox, so no idea whether a pinch hit is coming my way or not. Will do so soon, though.
After many valiant tries, my colleague Gerald has finally managed to get tennis shoes that fit him, so we can start playing when I come back.
Boss saw me play last weekend and flat-out refused to play with me. Calling him a wuss didn't help. No idea why ;-)
I booked a coach, who'll be playing with me while I'm in Austria (wouldn't be a proper holiday without tennis). I guess it's going to cost a lot, but then a holiday is a holiday, and I want to play.
The feline trio is fine, but I'm still loath to leave them all by themselves for a whole week (yes, there will be Slavica and Irene, but still).
After the very unfriendly mail sent Alexandra re. her last stunt I haven't hear fom her anymore. Can't say I'm overly aggrieved.
Mr H has a facebook account now, and I've friended him -- no hidden agenda there, honestly. I just saw him on Pinar and Elena's f-list and thought, why the heck not.
Still haven't sent off the mail to the newly discovered cousin living in the States. Strange, because I was feeling totally enthusiastic about it, but let's see how I'll be feeling after the holiday. Usually a sudden and unexpected loss of enthusiasm means that it wasn't something I really wanted to do in the first place (driving licence...).
And that's pretty much it.
