Happy as a piglet in... well, water
Mar. 20th, 2013 01:51 pmGabriele called me this morning to tell me that she'd heard through the (in this case pretty reliable) grapevine that she's going to start work here in Skopje at the end of September. This means that I get to stay till the end of September!!! Yay!!!
This has more positive aspects than you can possibly shake a stick at: I get another hot, south-European summer (I know I'm going to complain, but I do love it), I don't need to worry about flat renovation in Vienna going according to schedule, I don't need to worry about deadlines re. Lola's rabies certificate, the nights will already be cooler and hence the 10-hours drive to Vienna will be a lot more survivable (for the Critters and me, not to forget the driver).
Plus, the guy who's going to take Irene's place would like to come here as early as possible, which means I have time to train him properly before I leave. Gabriele can do it, of course, but getting used to the new surroundings is stressful enough without the additional stress of explaining the mysteries of our new accountancy system to somebody who's never used it.
On a completely different note, today is one of the few days since the arrival of the current Ambassador that I've actually got a lot of work to do. It's not at all bad. Wouldn't need every day to be like that, but oncy in a while it's quite refreshing. (Not that I'm going to thank Gerald for taking an impromptu holiday)
Refreshing or not, I have to go back to the heap of visa applications on my desk...
